#BigThings2019: Cropper Writing Residency and Community Solutions Fellowship!
It’s official - I’ve been accepted as a Community Solutions Program fellow!
It’s a four-month fellowship where I’ll be working and learning from a US non-profit organization to develop my skills as an activist, organizer, and artist. I’m getting a chance to work with an amazing organization in Washington DC called One Common Unity, passionate about using the arts as a tool for Peacebuilding and community transformation.
This comes literally on the heels of me finding out that Keir Alekseii and I will be at the Cropper Foundation Residential Writer’s Retreat in June. For three weeks, we’ll have the pleasure of honing our writing talents under the guidance of Prof. Emeritus Funso Aiyejina and Dr. Merle Hodge - both amazing writers - as well as director and educator Dr. Dani Lyndersay! Then, I get to sleep in my own bed for almost a few more weeks before spending almost the rest of the year in the US. For those who are wondering, it’ll be the first time I’ll spend more than a week outside of the country I call home.
I’ve been staying quiet about these amazing things that have come my way this year. I guess part of me worries sometimes that if I spoke too soon, it might turn to dust and fade away. I literally waited until every form was filled out to make this announcement, even though I had known for more than a month now. But more on my impostor syndrome in another blog post…lol. For now, let’s just bask in my good news!
Blessings, Compassion, Peace & Love,
